Deathless chapter 1; Busted

Wolpy couldn’t take anymore. He was going to get busted if he didn’t get out of here quickly. After that confrontation with Uliar and that moron Bryte, suspicions are rising. Wolpy’s going to get rumbled soon. After all, Bryte claimed that Wolpy stole Logan pack’s Elk, whereas Wolpy said that he caught the Elk himself. It was fairly obvious whose story was the most convincing. And yet as Wolpy moved silently among the sleeping wolves of Gangvar, an idea, a small spark that would become a raging inferno of determination and stubbornness that was unnatural for a coward like Wolpy.

‘What if I took an Elk to Logan? Whatever punishment they had planned for me would be less nasty, maybe they won’t punish me at all. Better not get my hopes up. I would stop a war between the two packs.’ Tension between the two packs was high, and a small push like this could start a bloody war. Wolpy won’t let other wolves die because of his stupidity and foolishness. ‘Gangvar will hunt me down once they find that I’m gone, I need to move quickly.’ Never in Wolpy’s life has he felt more determined to do something right and slightly selfless. ‘Huh, who am I kidding? I’m only doing this to save my own fur.’ He nearly sighed but held it in. One wrong move, a single paw out of line and he was screwed. He walked silently over to the Caribou he nicked four days ago and collected some of the meat off it and scooped it into a pouch that was made from several rabbit skins, he clamped the satchel in his jaws. Wolpy panned his head left and right to check if he woke anybody up. Stealth was crucial now. If someone saw him now he was going to die very horribly. No one did. Wolpy allowed a small and silent ‘phew’ before walking away, possibly leaving Gangvar for the final time. He walked silently and cursed his fur colour; yellow-brown, not very good camouflage.

“What’re you doing Wolpy?” said a voice behind him. Wolpy froze. It was Sansenite. Wolpy would recognize his brother’s voice anywhere. Wolpy didn’t turn but Sansenite walked around Wolpy to stand in front of him. Sansenite was much bigger than Wolpy, and much better in a fight. Sansenite asked again, with a tone of mixed confusion and impatience. “What are you doing Wolpy?” Wolpy sighed, so close and yet so far; he was just outside the forest borders. He could perhaps make a run for it, maybe if he dazed Sansenite, did he just think that? He spat out the rabbit skin satchel.

“I’m sorting this stupid feud out before it gets over the top.” Sansenite eyed Wolpy’s rabbit skin satchel.

“Looks more like you’re running away to me.” He accused. Wolpy forced a smile.

“You could say that.” Sansenite stared at Wolpy in, Wolpy guessed it was shock. Wolpy continued “I’m going to take an Elk to Logan and stop this before Uliar and dad declare war on each other. I’m going alone.” Wolpy’s eyes reflected the moonlight and shone like gems. Sansenite could see his willingness to do this.

“Wolpy was never this… unafraid before, is he scared? He seems determined.” Sansenite noticed that Wolpy made a move to try and get past his stepbrother, but Sansenite wouldn’t let that happen anytime soon; he wanted answers. “Why are you running away? Why are you doing this task?”

“Get out of my way Sansenite.”

“Answer me.” Wolpy tensed slightly. He was wasting precious minutes.

“Fine, I’m running away because I have to sort this mess out, since I started it all.” Sansenite’s eyes widened.

“What—what’re you talking about? What do you mean ‘you started it all’?” Wolpy rolled his eyes. His brother is so thick at times. Wolpy was about to explain to the brain dead Beta, until. “You stole that Caribou didn’t you?” Sansenite’s voice was rising. “You lied to us.” Wolpy nodded. Sansenite looked like he was going to burst; his face would have been funny if the situation wasn’t so dire.

“So like I said,” Said Wolpy, fighting to keep his tone even. His cowardly instincts were surfacing. “get out of my way. I have to do this Sansenite. Please, stand aside.” Sansenite of course didn’t listen.

“You insulted Gangvar’s honour Wolpy. You nearly caused a war—“

“Which I’m trying to stop, now move.” Sansenite took a threatening step forwards.

“No, you’re coming with me. Dad will know of this and you will be punished.” Wolpy acted on instinct, not the coward’s instinct, the prankster’s instinct which came in just as useful.

“That's a weird place to put a grave.” It wasn't good but it was enough to make Sansenite turn around. “Ha, ha! Suuucker,” Wolpy sped past Sansenite who gave chase after a few seconds of disorientation. Sansenite sprinted after the Omega.

It didn’t take Sansenite long to catch up. Wolpy felt fangs pierce his tail and cried out in pain. He tripped on a small rock and fell flat on his face. Sansenite pinned the Omega down and slammed his clenched paw onto his brother’s head.

“You won’t go unpunished this time, brother.” Sansenite spent the rest of the night, dragging Wolpy’s body back to Gangvar. Come morning, Wolpy was in for hell.
Ouch, oh dear. This is a parallel universe for Wolpy, no mystical powers or anything like that. But Wolpy 'catches' something, that's the only hint I'll give.

Wolpy and Gangvar pack=Skailla

Logan pack=Skailla
